The three day training will provide LPCs the 20 contact hours required to supervise LPC residents. Participants attending the workshop in its entirety will receive an NBCC Verification Form documenting 20.5 NBCC Continuing Education Hours (includes 2 hours ethics), fulfilling the Virginia LPC supervision requirements.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION TRAINING

Sponsored by Virginia Counselors Association & hosted by EMU Master of Arts in Counseling

Are you looking for a training opportunity to meet the Virginia Board requirements for training in supervision (18VAC115-20-52-C)? Join us for an opportunity to gather together with other clinical  mental health counselors interested in deepening their skills in clinical supervision. This workshop will resemble the classroom environment allowing participants the opportunity to:

1.     Gain a deeper understanding of the ethics around supervision,

2.     Explore a variety of supervision models and activities, including Interpersonal Process Recall, Bernard’s Discrimination Model, Developmental models, the Contemplative Supervision model, and Sandtray Supervision, and

3.     Work through logistical aspects of supervision, including paperwork requirements and the approved clinical supervisor requirements

Together we will explore the roles and functions of the supervisor as well as key ethical guidelines. Participants will have the opportunity to share supervision cases, walk-thru scenarios, role play and consult with one another.

INSTRUCTORS

Teresa J. Haase earned a BA in English and Secondary Education and an MA and EdS in Counseling Psychology from James Madison University. She holds a PhD in Counseling from The George Washington University. Teresa is licensed as a professional counselor in Virginia and an Approved Clinical Supervisor through the National Board for Certified Counselors. Her clinical, research and teaching interests include the integration of the expressive arts, specifically poetry and metaphor; grief and loss, counselor formation and pedagogy and supervision. Prior to joining the faculty at EMU, Teresa taught high school English and served as a graduate instructor for the Counseling Psychology program at James Madison University.

Cheree` Hammond received a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Virginia and an MA and Ed.S. in Counseling Psychology from James Madison University. Her counseling experience includes work with children and adolescents and their families, with an emphasis on children with disabilities. Cheree’s counseling, teaching and research interests include mindfulness and psychotherapy, pervasive developmental disorders, and developmental psychopathology. Prior to accepting a position at EMU, Cheree` served as a graduate instructor at James Madison University’s Counseling Psychology program.

NBCC CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS

SCHEDULE

Thursday: 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm (1/2 hour break)

Friday:  8:30 am - 5:30 pm (1 hour lunch break on your own)

Saturday: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm (1 hour lunch break on your own)

 

REGISTRATION FEE

Registration fee includes training and materials.  Participants will have a one-hour lunch break on their own, on Friday & Saturday.

Fees to attend are as follows and space is limited

  • 20.5 Hours:  Thursday, Friday & Saturday - $400 VCA Members;  $450 Non-Members; $470 Non-Members + VCA Membership
  • 4.5 Hours: Thursday Only - $110 VCA Members; $135 Non-Members
  • 16 Hours: Friday & Saturday - $320 VCA Members; $355 Non-Members

Virginia Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 2047. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Virginia Counselors Association is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Cancellation Policy

To receive a full refund, minus a $10 administrative fee, registrants must cancel at least 72 hours (3 days) prior to the start of the workshop.  Cancellations and/or no shows with less than a 72 hour (3 days) notice can either receive a credit for the registration fee to be applied toward a future VCA-sponsored workshop, annual VCA Convention, VCA membership, transfer the registration to another person OR request a refund minus a $50 fee.
